The history of the Center creation starts with Doctor R.Totty's visit to Nizhny Novgorod in 1992. Since that time many joint projects of the HARRIS Corporation and the "TECOM" company with NNSTU experts involvement have been implemented.
To create the Engineering Center the HARRIS Corporation transferred to NNSTU modern
telecommunication equipment
worth of more than $ 1 000 000 free of charge. NNSTU use this equipment to set up
training laboratries of the total
area of about 500 square meters to train experts in "Networking
and switching systems" speciality, the enrollment to this speciality started in 1996.
"Network Technologies" laboratry equipped with routeres of "3COM" company allows the students to master the latest
engineering facilites and technologies of information network organization.
The class of Sparc Stations established on the basis of the laboratory provides for the students both in the basics
of programming in C++ in UNIX operation system enviroment and in the application of the most modern software
means (FORSCAN, HNM) of monitoring and management of electrical communications networks, built up on the
basis of the HARRIS Corporation make equipment (MicroStar, QuadraLink, Digital Versatility).
"Switching equipment and digital processing of signals " laboratory provides of the teachers and students
two HARRIS 20-20 switches, connected to each other by digital and analog lines, with the opportunity for
remote control and programming with the help of remote terminals, as well as the opportunity to connect digital
and analog phones, modems, faxes and Attendant Work Stations (AWS). Computer class of this laboratry provides
for the training in "Digital processing of signals` course by computer simulations means and real models of the systems
on the basis of signal processors of "Texas Instraments" and "Analog Devices" companies.
"Theory of circuits and wireless communications" laboratory allows the students to master the basic principals
of electrical circuits calculations with the help of computers. The knowledge obtained by the students is backed
up in the course of performing laboratory works using measurement equipment and actually functioning equipment
of wireless communications on the basis of ROLL base station and the UHF/VHF wireless data
transfer systems,
RF3236 product, which includes a digital camera.
The orientation of the above listed laboratories in the area of the telecommunications supported by the laboratory
of embedded systems. This laboratory performs the developments of hardware for digital sub-systems
telecommunications equipment with the wide use of the programmable logic.
Created in the laboratory by means of modern cross-systems the hardware development software
of embedded
microprocessor systems is functioning under control of specialized real time Operation Systems.
Internal phone network is being deployed for the students work, including a digital network with services
integration, free access to the Internet is provided.
All the classes are conducted by highly qualified teachers, who have been trained
in various divisions of the HARRIS Corporation,
they participated in the development of real telecommunications systems.
The main customer of specialists, graduates of the Engineering Center is the Stock company "Nizhegorodsvjazinform", which very rapidly upgrades its equipment and is in need of modern experts of the world class training. Besides training young experts, the Engineering Center will also re-train engineers as well as training of engineering staff of the companies which purchase the HARRIS Corporation products.
